Yorkshire Software Solutions officially turned 3 years old this year, and after some reflecting I have some big news.

I started this company as a way to create something good, something that invested in new engineers, giving them a way to get into the tech sector and learn the trade properly. To create a company that operates within my personal values of trying to do the right thing, and to help people (including myself 😉 ).

Hitting the ceiling

This has been… in theory … a part time job for me, since I already have a full time job as Chief Software Officer at Bombe. However, it has come to the point where I have realised I have hit the ceiling of how much I can do alone. There is only so much one man can do, especially when they are part time.

Meeting the right people

This year has brought big challenges and even bigger changes for me. For starters, I met Chris Scott-Thomas, who is a main character in this epic tale…I mean post. Introducing me to Stephanie Henwood from Your Personal Assistant, who as become my right hand man and really taken a lot of the stress off my back from day one.

But, I needed more changes. So as a result, I spoke to Chris and his wife Jess Scott-Thomas from Clarity to see how we might work together to help Yorkshire Software Solutions Ltd grow, how we can help more people, how we can give more people an in-road into the tech sector AND show them how to do it the right way. With an added bonus of not sending me to an early grave trying to do it solo.

The big announcement

As a result, I’m please to announce that both Chris and Jess have joined us at Yorkshire Software Solutions as the fractional CEO and COO respectively, with me retaining the role of owner/founder, but moving my day to day involvement into a CTO role.

Why this is the right move

While some people may feel it seems daft to put somebody else in charge of my baby, I disagree.

I am ultimately proud of what I have built over the last 3 years, and the people I have managed to help. But I am not trained in business. But I am a damn fine software engineer though! So taking ego out of it, it’s better to have people who have my back and know better than myself how to grow the company, while I do the thing I am great..turning coffee into code.

Onto year 4

It is the right thing for Yorkshire Software Solutions, and we are all really excited to be working together. Going into year 4, we’re going to be levelling up, big style.
